My Work
During the heyday of Fraktur 1740-1840, beautiful pieces were created using pen and ink and watercolor. They were made by everyday people for everyday people. They were tucked away in books and blanket chests and served as quasi-legal records of important events in the life of a family.
One of the most rewarding things about being a fraktur artist is being able to create an heirloom that marks important events in the lives of families. Today, Fraktur is made to celebrate births, family history, weddings, retirements, and employee recognition.
I'd be glad to talk to you via telephone, email, or Zoom.

REDWARE ORNAMENTS
Redware decoration of functional, household wares was a tradition that Pennsylvania Germans brought with them as immigrants. The technique of sgrafitto, is just one of several techniques that were employed. For this, a colored liquid clay, called slip, is painted on top of low-fire red clay, then designs are scratched through to reveal the color below. The whole piece is then covered with a clear transparent glaze.
